Myasthenia Gravis Foundation’s Upcoming MG Walks Raise Funds and Awareness
The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) started the MG Walk Campaign six years ago to raise funds, create awareness, renew hope, and generate a broader network of community and support for those living with myasthenia gravis (MG).
The MG Walks allow supporters and patients to become the driving force behind research fundraising. The funds raised through the signature fundraising campaign are used to support research seeking a cure for MG and related disorders, as well as to improve treatment options and provide support to patients and families through community programs and advocacy.
In addition to fundraising, the MG Walks allow patients to open up and discuss their journey in a safe and nurturing environment. For many, this might be the first time they’ve ever been able to do that. The idea is to foster a sense of community in different locations across the country.
There are three MG Walks in December 2017:
- Dec. 2 – Arkansas MG Walk, Lake Dardanelle State Park, Russellville, Arkansas.
- Dec. 3 – Arizona MG Walk, Chaparral Park, Scottsdale, Arizona.
- Dec. 31 – Virtual MG Walk, anytime, worldwide.
The MG Walks are between one and three miles long. Participating in the one-mile or three-mile walk route is not mandatory if you attend the event. There’s plenty to do at the venues, which are appropriate for families and friends of all ages.
The MG Walk Campaign’s goal is $900,000, and so far the community has raised $828,989. That means there’s only $71,011 to go.
You can register here, join an existing team, or create your own team to help the community reach its original goal. You can personalize your fundraising page, share your connection to MG, and tell your story about why you joined the fight to stop myasthenia gravis.
The MG Walks are meant for all ages. With a little help from adults, children can be great fundraisers. Bring your friends and family. You can also register for an MG Walk on the same day, on-site, if you haven’t had time to register online in advance or if you decide to attend at the last minute.
Please contact the MG Walk Office at [email protected] or 1-855-649-2557 for additional questions or concerns.
For practical information regarding the walks, don’t forget to read the campaign’s FAQ page, where you’ll be able to find detailed answers to common questions. Don’t forget that breakfast, snacks and water will be provided at the event. If you have any food allergies or special preferences, feel free to bring your own food and beverages.
