MGFA Poised for 2021 Coast-to-Coast Walk 2740 Challenge
With the goal of raising funds and awareness to improve care and find a cure for myasthenia gravis (MG), the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) is hosting the 2021 Coast-to-Coast Walk and 2740 Challenge on Nov. 13.
The event, which will be held virtually this year, aims to raise $450,000 for the MGFA, a nonprofit that supports research and helps patients and their families cope with the difficulties of living with MG. More than $45,000 has been raised so far.
“To all our MGFA friends, we appreciate your support and can’t wait to gather together (virtually) across the country,” the organization stated in its announcement. “Thank you for helping us raise awareness and funds to improve the lives of those living with MG and to, ultimately, find a cure.”
To raise funds, participants from across the nation may walk where they are with family, friends, and colleagues, or form or contribute to a team. The MGFA MG Walk Mobile App is available for download here.
For the challenge portion of the combined event, supporters are encouraged to donate or raise $274 for prizes that will be announced soon. The “2740” refers to the number of miles from New York City to Los Angeles, California, and is meant to showcase the magnitude of this “coast-to-coast” initiative.
“People with MG and their families, friends, co-workers, and fellow community members rally together to participate, volunteer and donate,” the MGFA noted on its website. “The MG Walk generates awareness, renews hope, and creates a community of care. People with MG have the opportunity to connect and share their strength. Many can talk about their illness — often for the first time — and experience an outpouring of support, concern, and camaraderie.”
The MGFA will broadcast the event live, highlighting volunteers, team captains and partners. Supporters are asked to spread the word about the event and invite individuals in their networks to make a donation, sign up to walk from home, or raise funds for the MGFA.
“We are so excited for you to be part of this special day and want to hear from you,” the announcement states. “Let us know what you’ll be doing on Nov. 13 by posting on social media or emailing us at [email protected]. Please stay tuned for more updates, our new logo, and an announcement of prizes you can win by being part of the 2740 challenge.”
