If you want to find stability while dealing with your day-to-day issues — and in addition to the day-to-day issues, the crises which come up in dealing with MG — I’ve found that not only am I my best advocate, I’m my best researcher.
I’m trained in medicine, but I knew nothing about MG when it hit me. I’ve been on a pretty steep uphill grade. And I do my own research. I’m my own advocate. And I keep saying, you do this, do that, because that’s the way you’re going to get through it.
Don’t assume that you go into the hospital or go to see a doctor or whatever, and they know what’s going on with you — what you’re feeling. You’re not only your own best advocate, you’re your own best researcher. Do the research. Go online. It’s not that hard. You’ll find a lot of help out there.
They’re not just researchers, but they’re people who actually come up with publications that are all about us. And read the stuff because it’s there for us, and you’ll learn a lot from it, and it will help you get through it.
