I gained 10 pounds while I was on prednisone and Mestinon from Nov. 2, 2020 to Oct. 14, 2021, and my blood sugar required insulin for control. I lost the weight and no longer take any meds for MG nor diabetes.

Weight gain from Prednisone yes about 18 pounds just couldn’t get it off. Really affected my self esteem, hated the chubby cheeks! Neurologist finally got my MG under control and decreased my Prednisone lost all but 2 pounds and feel better about that. I gain about 3 pounds after an IVIG dose but after a week or so it’s gone. I am on Zoloft but it doesn’t seem to affect my weight.

The double edged sword Prednisone has kept mg in check as well as substantial weight gain.

Definitely. Prednisone is the known culprit. After two years of prednisone, I have tapered to a “baby dose” and am trying to lose the associated weight gain which is a struggle, along with the depreciated self-image. But, I am thankful for improved strength and independence. The trade offs are worth it. That is what we have to keep focused on!
