Congenital myasthenic syndromes
Are you familiar with congenital myasthenia gravis or congenital myasthenic syndrome? Do you know someone personally who has this form of MG? (https://myastheniagravisnews.com/congenital-myasthenia/ & https://www.ninds.nih.gov/health-information/disorders/congenital-myasthenia#:~:text=Congenital%20myasthenia%20is%20an%20inherited,t%20properly%20released%20and%20received. )
Congenital myasthenia gravis differs from other forms of myasthenia gravis (MuSK, seronegative, LRP4, AChR) because it is caused by a genetic defect instead of an irregular immune response. Congenital MG occurs when there are changes in genes involved in nerve-muscle communication. Congenital MG is inherited, meaning a person must receive a copy of the defective gene from both parents to develop the disease. Symptoms are very similar to autoimmune MG.
