After I had my thymectomy, I knew I would need to start treating my scar as early as possible. I’m not ashamed of it-on the contrary, I like having a reminder of what I’ve been through. But most of my scars have healed poorly. I develop keloids, which are bumps of skin over a scar. Basically, when a scar is healing, it grows too much skin and creates a lump.

I’ve had steroid shots and used essential oils to flatten the keloids with little success. I’m currently using a silicone sheet and gel to try and flatten it.

Have you treated a thymectomy scar? Were you successful? What were the most and least helpful treatments?
