Has anyone noticed a flare-up of their MG symptoms coinciding with the use of hair dye?

A study was done about a woman with MG who had two severe MG crises coinciding with the use of hair dye that contained methylisothiazolinone (MIT), which is particularly common with red or blue dyes (https://www.ajmc.com/view/case-study-hair-dye-containing-mit-precipitates-myasthenic-crises). First, she was put on a breathing machine. During her second crisis, she experienced fatigue and headaches, leading to another hospital stay.

I’m curious if there’s a connection or if others have experienced similar issues.

Thank you for sharing an interesting article. After reading that, I think it may be important to read the ingredients to boxed labels or inquire with your salon. I have never had an MG related reaction to hair dye. I have always gone to a salon and due to the length of time having to sit there as well as cost I only go about every 6mo instead of 4-6wks which is less exposure. I have blonde hair so have not used any products that had that ingredient but I will be more cautious going forward.
