I started imuran about 2yrs ago. I started at 50mg then a yr later moved to 100mg. I started it because cellcept stopped working. I have no noticeable side effects. I started it at a time when I was doing very poorly and it took a long time (over 6mo) to really start working well. It wasn’t until I moved to 100mg that I could really see major improvement. I am doing better overall now than I have in several years and with less flares but I’m not sure how much of that is due to imuran or starting ivig.

However, after going to the dermatologist, I was educated on the increased risk of skin cancer due to imuran. I was told that even squamous cell could be as damaging as melanoma for a patient on imuran. So If you take it, please keep yourself covered as much as possible when outside and use sunscreen daily. Start going for yearly skin checks. I was not notified of this when it was prescribed.
