Reverse bone density issues by taking a great deal of collagen despite the prednisone!

The infusions had no effects… no improvements from them. I’ve been getting weaker lately.
I’m on 50 mg of prednisone daily now. The large amounts of collagen I add to smoothies, soups and cereals hve improved my bone density over the past few years!

You’re very welcome, Paul. Best wishes, Wayne

I just want to say that anyone taking prednisone should tk collagen supplements. I have been taking a lot of prednisone for long. I had a bone density scan a couple years ago and another a couple months ago. Prednisone weakens bone density. So does getting older. My bone density has improved because of the collagen, glue of life. In fact, everyone should have plenty of collagen, which I put in my super charged smoothies.
Best wishes folks, Wayne

MemberJanuary 21, 2024 at 6:40 pm in reply to: Any Tips for managing diarrhea from PyridostigmineAs you say, neurologists nd doctors in general, will disapprove non-prescribed treatments. And pharmaceutical companies will not spend a lot of money on R&D on vitamins. 🤣 If you do self-study like I’m doing, be very careful. Restrict calcium intake. I’m doing 80,000 IU daily. I’m not suggesting that for anyone. I’m taking 50 mg prednisone and a huge amount of collagen. Best wishes, Wayne

I just started taking massive doses. There are serious concerns, of course. You MUST restrict calcium intake if you do this, to avoid Hypercalcemia. I’m hoping I get a better result than from my 1st 4 week round of Vyvgart infusions. I get my second round in February. I’ll keep you folks updated next month. Best wishes, Wayne

MemberJanuary 18, 2024 at 5:00 pm in reply to: Any Tips for managing diarrhea from PyridostigmineHi, Folks –
I know that you’ve been discussing the effects of Mestinon (Pyridostigmine). However, RobertS included in a post a link to am NIH study report on mega doses of Vitamin D and its impact on MG. Nobody, including Robert, had anything to say about this study, which I found surprising.
I’ve decided to do my own study and just ordered a lot of Vitamin D.
Also, I’m going to discontinue taking calcium pills and take a look at my multi-vitamins to restrict my calium intake, to avoid Hypercalcemia. I’ll let y’all know how this works out. Btw, check out that link and let me know what you think. Best wishes, Wayne

In the meantime, here’s what you need to know to make this process faster:
That was followed by a bunch of instructions, including how they don’t accept insurance, but how maybe they will. 🤣 I’ve asked how much it will cost for pi r 23 mg a day. No response yet.

I’m posting again because the previous post got distorted.
I’m about to have my 2nd cycle of Vyvgart in February. I’m not very happy with the results so far. I’m very interested in hearing about results from using Zilucoplan. Can anyone share experience with Zilucoplan? Thank you! Wayne

Hi, Paul –
Of course you should get competent doctors. I also want to encourage anyone on prednisone to take lots if collagen in their food to counteract pred’s side effect of weakening bone density.. Collagen is good for everyone. I load my very healthy smoothies with pure powder collagen every day and my bone density scans have shown improvement in the last 2 years. I’m 74 years of age, so my bones are supposed to get less dense.
Best wishes, Wayne

MemberDecember 6, 2023 at 3:36 pm in reply to: Have you fallen due to Myasthenia gravis?Hi Folks,
I can’t over-emphasize this…
Load up on collagen!
Cleveland Clinic says “Collagen accounts for 30% of your body’s protein. It provides structure, support or strength to your skin, muscles, bones and connective tissues.”
I’ve taken a lot of prednisone for my MG, which weakens bone density. And because I put a lot of pure, powdered collagen in my smoothies, my bone density has IMPROVED!
Best wishes! Wayne

I’ll be starting Vyvgart infusions after next week’s flu shot and blood tests. Best wishes, Folks! Wayne

First, I want to urge anyone concerned about bone density to seriously load up on collagen. I put a lot of pure powder collagen in my daily smoothies and have statistically significant improvement in my bone density while taking large doses of prednisone (the enemy of good bone density).
My neurologist has finally agreed to prescribe Vyvgart. I’m very encouraged by several reports in the chat room. Thanks, Folks!

I can’t overemphasized the significance I place on consuming a lot of collagen. And I’m pleased report the my neurologist had finally agreed to prescribe Vyvgart. 😅

Hi, Folks – <div>
I take 40 mg of prednisone per day. I’m 74 years of age. Prednisone is notorious for weaking bones and can lead to osteopenia and osteoporosis.
I take a lot of powdered pure Collagenn in very healthy smoothies. I has a bone density scan done recently. I had one about a year and a half ago. The result of the recent scan was a statistically significant increase (improv) in bone density, despite the prednisone and aging!
Cleveland Clinic, a reputable source of information, has this to say about Collagen.
Collagen’s main role is to provide structure, strength and support throughout your body.
Collagen’s specific roles include:
- Helping fibroblasts to form in your dermis (middle skin layer), which helps new cells grow.
- Playing a role in replacing dead skin cells.
- Providing a protective covering for organs.
- Giving structure, strength and elasticity to your skin.
- Helping your blood to clot.

Your dermis is the middle layer of skin in your body. It contains two different layers, and it helps support your epidermis, among other functions.

MemberSeptember 8, 2023 at 7:05 pm in reply to: What happened to efgartigimod/Vyvgart for seronegative MG?Nan and Theresa – Thank you for your very encouraging remarks about Vyvgart! I have Kaiser in Northern California. I’m about to change neurologists because my current neurologist has resisted my desire for Vyvgart.
I’m on 40 mg of prednisone daily. I make smoothies loaded with collagen and other proteins and tomorrow I get my 2nd bone density scan in a couple years, so I can compare. I also have a continuous glucose monitor to track my blood sugar all day long.
I understand that there is no contraindications regarding Vyvgart and prednisone..
I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks again!
-
I just got back gmfrom my 2nd opinion neurologist appointment. I’m being referred to a neuromuscular specialist. They’re the only ones who can prescribe Vyvgart at Kaiser. We’ll see.
-
Thank you for your kind thoughts, Maria.
Collagen made the positive difference in bone density. A lot of collagen. 😆 I’ll let you know if I’m successful convincing my new neurologist that I should get Vyvgart.
Have a great week! Wayne
-
And I’m constantly checking my glucose, by the way. I’m switching neurologists and hope to get prescribed for Vyvgart. I’m 74 years old, and I have more health issues than there is room to cover in this posting. 🤣

Maria and others taking prednisone, it’s possible to counter the side effects. I’m on 40 mg a day. I’ve been loading up on collagen in super smoothies and, believe it or not, I’ve INCREASED my bone density. I used glipizide and metformin, along with sugar when necessary, to try to keep my blood sugar between 70 and 180 as much as possible, with the help of a 14 day continuous glucose monitor.
