• Undiagnosed OMG? Or something else?

My opthamologist sent me to a neuro-opthamologist in 2017 because of exotropia and occasional slight ptosis. Every blood test and a brain MRI were negative. The SFEMG results were slightly abnormal, but not enough to definitely indicate MG. Tried mystinon and predisone with no change. I still have the same symptoms 8 years later, not really any change or progression to gMG.

I saw a opthamologist last week who is a specialist in adult strabismus, to ask if eye exercises might help. He said that if i actually had OMG, eye exercises would probably make it worse by making my eye muscles tired. After more testing of my eyes, he said it really hadn’t changed since all the tests in 2017, and didn’t think that redoing the tests would show anything different. He also said muscle surgery on my eyes to align them would not be successful if it really is OMG.

So not sure it’s really MG, or maybe OMG which has not progressed (and hopefully won’t — I’d be interested in knowing how long it took for anyone on the forum to go from OMG to gMG). I really only have the exotropia (on either side at different times) when I’ve been reading for a long time and my eyes are tired. I can control it most times, like when I’m driving.

Also, I have just been reading some medical journal studies which say that beta-blockers and statins might be contraindicated for MG. I take both of these, so might talk to my PCP about it.

My ophthalmologist told my that prednisone was the cause of my blurry vision. It also caused water formation on my retina. I had to have it scraped.i go to the VA for treatment.

I am not good with all the medical terms. I have been diagnosed with gMG 5 years ago. I get infusions every 3 months and it helps. I am also on 5mg of prednisone daily.

The times I’ve been on prednisone or another steroid, my eye pressure, blood pressure, and blood sugar spike. Usually I’ve only had to be on it for a short time. But my neuro-opthamologist wanted to see if prednisone would improve my suspected ocular MG. I started with a low dose and it was gradually increased until about 40 mg, over several weeks. At that time I couldn’t stand the side effects and it wasn’t relieving the OMG symptoms anyway, so I stopped it.
