Dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing, is a common early sign of Myasthenia gravis and should lead physicians to consider looking into MG testing.

Other than scary, uncomfortable, and personally trying, having difficulties swallowing in front of others can feel embarrassing. There is no reason you should feel ashamed. But, not everyone around you will be aware of what is going on or what to do.

Even with family and friends who are aware that difficulty swallowing is an MG symptom, I have experienced that they still react as if I am choking every time. I appreciate that they care enough to always be on alert, but it can make me feel defeated when I cannot even eat without others worrying for me.

How have you learned to combat various reactions to your troubles swallowing?
