Was very reluctant o use a rollator walker, but it finally provided me with a new range of mobility and I could travel on my own. Besides this mobility aid I am currently testing apps to faciltate dialy life.

Over time I’ve incorporated many items to make life easier and me more functional. First of all, I have grab bars in the bathroom and a seat in the shower. I have a wide stool in my bedroom to dress on. I hang my clothes to a lower bar in the closet meant for men’s pants. I bought Kohler toilet seats that raise the height up to chair height. I got Corelle dishes which are lighter weight.

I remodeled my kitchen so there is room for my walker and eventually my wheelchair if it comes to that need. I got Corelle dishes which are lighter weight. I have an electric pressure cooker which makes cooking easier. Because it was too high on the counter to lift off the lid, I got a low rollaround cart to put the pressure cooker on. I got a camping table which is lower than the counters so I can sit in the kitchen and peel or cut up food for salads or cooking. On “bad” days, we will have frozen dinners. I use my walker as a chair in the kitchen, as needed. Be sure to get a bottle/jar opener.

Have a grab bars at front and garage doors to step up into my house. I have a 13 lb walker with 8″ wheels which roll easily on irregular surfaces. I can put a tray on the seat to carry stuff on. I bought a wheelchair so I can go through a museum, zoo, or floral garden. I bought a small vacuum and small Swifter so I can mop my laminate floors which are much easier to walk on, reduce tripping, make my walker move easilly, and are easier to clean.

I have a stationary, recumbant bike to exercise my legs on. I had home PT for a few weeks after pneumonia and found that it made me much stronger. I can use the stretch bands to exercise my arms and legs. Unfortunately, I’m not disciplined about using them regularly.

We also upgraded our car to a newer model that has steering assistance and will brake if I fail to do so in time. It makes steering so much easier on long trips. Plus it improves safety.

I didn’t do all of these things at once. But you might add them when you think they will improve your energy conservation and functionality.

I forgot a couple of things I’ve done. If you have diarhea from Mestinon, use disposable briefs and get a bidet to help you clean up much more easily. Get a long handle shoe horn to get your shoes on more easily. Use a grab bar to fetch things out of reach. Get a fallen and can’t get up button with a GPS locator that you can wear in the shower. Set alarms on your phone to remind you about taking medications.

<div>A “Black Ice” phase change cooling neck wrap. Stick in fridge for a while. Put on neck. Cools my body down. Makes a world of difference. Available at link below.</div>

Also Techniche TechKewl 6626 Phase Change Cooling Vest with Inserts and Cooler – Blue. From same store. Not cheap but works!

These two things allow me to be out and ride the mower on days I couldn’t if I didn’t have them. Same for going to grandsons baseball games.
