Q: Did your symptoms get better after thymectomy?

A: I love getting this question. People often ask if it was worth having my chest cut open, and I’m always quick to say YES. My symptoms are now much more manageable, and I’m currently on minimal medication.

I had my thymectomy the same year I was diagnosed with MG, diagnosed in April 2017, and had the procedure in December. I knew it was a big decision and came with risks, but I also had a clear vision of how I wanted my life to look a few years down the line. I didn’t want to rely heavily on steroids or constant infusions.

It took about 2–3 years to really see the full effects, but looking back, I truly don’t think I’d be doing as well as I am today without it.

    💬Let’s Talk About It💬

    1. Have you had a thymectomy?

    2. Did your medication needs change after your thymectomy?

I had the surgery right after I was diagnosed but, it took about 7 yrs for my symptoms to level out.
