  • What does “palliative care” mean to you?

Many people hear the term and immediately think “end of life,” even though palliative care is really about improving quality of life at any stage of illness.

Have you heard about palliative care? If so, what assumptions did/do you have? Do you think it’s a viable option for someone living with MG?

I first heard the term palliative care when my husband was hospitalized and I didn’t realize that he wouldn’t survive. I didn’t even know what they meant by the term until later. Thought it’s an extremely important area of medicine, I unfortunately still flinch when I hear it due to my initial experience.

Same here. I only heard about it when my mother-in-law was about to go into hospice. So, that’s all I think about when I hear that word. End of life times

I am in the same boat as many of the folks here. I’d always associated it with end of life and hospice care. It wasn’t until another member here in our forums brought it up. I figured with as much research as I have done and work that I have done in the forums and as a columnist for MGN for 4.5 years, I would have come across it before now.

I think when it comes to finding ways to get help, any resource available to us should be one that’s considered. Especially something as (probably) under utilized as palliative care. It’s something I am definitely looking into if for no other reason than to share it here.
